Plants Of The Month - December

Viburnum tinus

This evergreen plant is a brilliant all rounder that can be used as a staple in most garden settings. It will provide structure and interest throughout the year but is actually at its very best during some of the drabbest months of the year. It will liven up garden beds and borders in winter, as well as being a resilient shrub for pots. It may also be used for hedging.

Cyclamen hederifolium

Cyclamen have dainty looking flowers that pop up on slender stems, and will survive even harsh weather conditions. The gorgeous foliage, which follows soon afterwards, is often marbled or attractively patterned, which just adds to its overall appeal. It grows from a tuber and will slowly spread to form a carpet, which looks particularly stunning in naturalised gardens, but it also works really well in alpine beds and pots.
