Plants Of The Month - October

Pyracantha

This adaptable plant has a myriad of uses. It can be grown as a free-standing shrub, neatly clipped into a hedge where its thorny stems will deter even the most adventurous intruder, or trained to grow flat against an unsightly, or over-large wall. It is shade tolerant and is attractive to wildlife. The bright orange/red berries that drip in generous clusters from its evergreen branches, makes this one of the most eye-catching autumn plants.

Colchium

The 6" tall showy naked flowers which appear in late September and October are long lived and easy to grow in any rich, well-drained soil. Their luxuriant foliage appears in the spring. Excellent among shrubs.
